And we have done so for a long time. Since 1880 to be exact. That was when our founder Viggo Schulstad opened his first bakery in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was obsessed with perfection, and that aim to always be better is still a part of our DNA.

4. We care about food safety

All our bakeries live up to the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety or an equivalent standard approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative.

We also use x-ray machines and/or metal detectors in all our bakeries to ensure that we live up to the highest standards for food safety.

5. We care about choices

We want to give consumers the possibility to choose between both healthy food and comfort food.

On the one hand we work on salt reduction, cholesterol reduction and nutrients in rye and wholegrain. We also participate in national and international initiatives dedicated to improving consumer nutrition.

In parallel, we develop delicious recipies for premium fast food meals and offer a range of sweet treats for afternoon snacking. 

6. We care about research and innovation

It takes a lot to meet and preferably exceed consumer expectations. That is why we together with our owners invest 250-300 million SEK in various research and innovation projectsinvest making us innovators and promoters of new knowledge.

7. We care about food waste

At Lantmännen Unibake, we invest in research aimed at cutting food waste by making bread and pastry products stay fresh for a longer period of time. In our waste reduction efforts, we target several levels: production, product and consumer.

We also work with shelf-life extension to keep that crunchy crust and moist crumb, and create inspiring recipes that curb food waste by utilizing the leftover stale bread.

8. We care about craftsmanship

A good bread cannot be invented by a machine! It takes real bakers and real taste buds to develop and make our bread and pastry. In our biggest countries of operation we use test bakeries to develop and improve our products with baking equipment like we know from any other kitchen.

Developing and refining artisan bread and pastry on large bakery lines is an art that takes real craftsmanship.

9. We care about your needs

Whether it’s bread and pastry made with organic or gluten-free ingredients, products free of nuts, products made with healthy fats, sourdough, baked in a stone oven or with a long fermentation process – we have it all. 10. We care about sustainability 

Sustainable cultivation is not only a choice between organic and conventional production methods. For us it is about exploiting the best from different production techniques.

We have policies, procedures and systems to ensure that we obtain our ingredients from a sustainable source. This includes everything from the RSPO certified palm oil in our margarine and butter blends to the pecan nuts on our pastries. 

11. We care about the environment

By constantly having our continuous improvement programme in mind, we work to reduce the environmental impact of our bakeries in a number of different ways. Improved energy efficiency is one of them. From reusing heat from our ovens to installing LED lighting at our bakeries, our energy consumption is an ongoing focus.

Also, we harvest approximately 70.000 tons of wheat annually in Sweden with a reduced carbon dioxide emission.

12. We care about consumer trends

It can be hard for everyone to keep up with consumers’ ever-changing needs and trends. That’s why we have a new product development teams in all major markets.

They interpret new movements and requests in each market and, most importantly, they keep a constant dialogue with our customers in order to meet the needs of the end-customer.

Because of our large production capacity – 37 bakeries worldwide to be exact – we can guarantee your delivery of high-quality bakery products.

14. We care about convenience

We know that time is scarce in any professional kitchen. And no matter how big the desire may be to bake everything from scratch, we all need to to optimize our workflows. That is why we keep a solid focus on convenience when we develop new products.
